Bachelor of Medicine, Bachelor of Surgery, or in Latin: Medicinae Baccalaureus, Baccalaureus Chirurgiae (abbreviated in various ways, viz. MBBS or MBChB, MB BS, MB BChir, BM BCh, MB BCh, MB ChB, BM BS, BM, BMed), are the two first professional undergraduate degrees awarded upon graduation from medical school in medicine and surgery by universities in various countries. Doctor of Medicine (M.D., from the Latin Medicine Doctor meaning “Teacher of Medicine”) is a terminal degree for physicians and surgeons. In some countries it is a professional doctorate where training is entered after obtaining between 90 and 120 credit hours of university level work
